christie smith is in oakland with everything that's planned. good morning. >> good morning. they are calling this a march for justice for derek jones. supporters say the popular barber often barbecued out here in front of his shop. this is where they are going to gather later this afternoon and march from here all the way to the bart station, the site of the shooting of an unarmed passenger, oscar grant. they question the timing of this shooting on the heels of the mehserle sentencing. jones was 37 years old, a father of one, unarm and shot and killed by oakland police monday night. some supporters of his thought he was shot in the back, but they are reporting an independent autopsy shows he was hit in the front. oakland police said they believed he was reaching towards his waist band in a police foot chase, making officers believe he had a weapon. this followed a domestic violence call after a woman was fighting with him at the barbershop earlier. police apparently tried to shock him, but that did not work. there was a chase and the confrontation. folks meeting here this af

christie smith is live where the chase ended. police are trying to determine why the two men and women were running from them? >> that's right. they don't know for sure, but they have good ideas. let me show you where the chase ended here in oakland. the driver slammed into the parked car before he bailed out of the car that he was driving and started running and hiding in back yards near east 25th and highland. oakland police and the chp looking for him with guns drawn overnight. 90 minutes in, they found him with the help of police dogs. the car was towed out overnight. this started overnight when oakland police spotted what they thought may have been a stolen car around the same time that a call came in about an armed robbery and the descriptions of the driver and the person were similar. they are investigating a handful of other armed robberies. oakland police tried to stop the car and the driver got on interstate 580 when the chp chased him over the bridge and back. he turned around and went back here to oakland and crashed.

christie smith is live on that scene with more on what police say happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, scott. antioch police are still here on scene this morning. we're watching them take measurements and still collect evidence, trying to piece together exactly how this happened after a 21-year-old man was shot and killed outside a convenience store. there are evidence markers over by the exit there. police received a call just before 9:00 last night to buchanan road and gentrytown. when officers arrived they found a 21-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. paramedics came, tried to save him but it was too late. there was also apparently a passenger in the car who wasn't injured and was able to give police suspect information, although they're not releasing that yet this morning. they do say it appears the suspect was on foot when he opened fire and then he ran away. police say they're not investigating this as gang-related, but it does appear that it was personal and they are asking witnesses to come forward. reporting live in anti
